Canada offers India know-how in combating terrorism

On Wednesday Canada offered India its know-how in strengthening the country's law enforcement agencies to combat threat posed by cross-border terrorism. "Canada can assist India in developing special security forces to prevent terrorist attacks and combat them with speed and decisiveness," Alok Mukherjee, Chair, Toronto Police Service Board, said.

Mukherjee, who will be visiting India next week along with Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair, said that using tools of "Intelligent Policing", the police in Toronto was successful in curbing anti-India and the LTTE movement.

"The thrust of intelligent policing is to increase effectiveness and better risk management even with limited resources," he said.

Toronto Police Chief Blair and Mukherjee, first ever Indo-Canadian who is appointed as the chief of the Toronto Police Service Board, will explore the possibilities of mutual cooperation between the security agencies of both the nations.

During two weeks of their stay in India, Blair and Mukherjee will visit National Law School, Delhi and National Police Academy, Hyderabad; the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie; Indian Military Academy, Dehradoon.

They would also visit Amritsar, Agra, and Mumbai and meet top security officials, educationists, business leaders and administrators and explore possibilities of mutual partnerships, exchanges and training programmes.
