MSV FAIZE OSAMANI FREED BY SOMALI PIRATES

(Version anglaise seulement)
The pirate "mothership" to which the sea-jacked vehicle carrier ASIAN GLORY was commandeered to during recent days has been identified as the MSV FAIZ OSAMANI (aka MSV FAIZE E OSMANI), an Indian-flagged cargo vessel, which had been captured by five Somali pirates 150 nm east of Socotra Island as we reported on January 28, 2010.

The vessel has apparently no IMO number but an official registration number given as MNV 1454 and has as MMSI: 419956147.

Reliable sources reported now that the five Somali pirates from the Indian Dhow were lifted to the vehicle carrier and the Indian vessel with the reportedly 14 Indian sailors was abandoned. The ship owner so far had on his crew list only 12 seafarers.

Since a Danish warship, which had been shadowing the Indian Dhow since her abduction, had now caught up and provided food and water to the seafarers the exact number of seafarers will hopefully be known soon, though the navies involved in the anti-piracy operations around the Horn of Africa have become much less transparent in their actions and do not fully report to the authorities or organizations concerned.

The Danish Navy apparently is also providing some assistance to repair the defective steering gear of the Indian Dhow to enable her to sail on after she is free now.
