Freed by Somali pirates Greek ship arrives at Mombasa

The earlier sea-jacked MV DELVINA has arrived at the Kenyan port of Mombasa and is anchored at K anchorage after entering the harbour in the shadows of the night yesterday.

The delay in her expected arrival is due to the fact that her actual release happened on 18th and not on 17th December as widely reported in the media and that she was held offshore for a debriefing of the crew.

The 53,629dwt ship's 14 Filipino and seven Ukrainian crew are unharmed, and their families have been notified of their release.
SOMALI pirates have released a Greek cargo ship and its 21 crew after 43 days of captivity, according to the owner.

Delvina was hijacked by pirates on 5 November. Her owner Meadway Shipping & Trading did not provide an official word about any ransom paid, but the Interfax news agency, citing Ukrainian officials, reported that $3.5M was handed over for Delvina's release.

Meadway said it could not provide further information about the release because it "does not wish to jeopardise the safety of other vessels or crews that are still held by pirates in the area".

Delvina was captured en route from Ukraine to Mombasa, north-east of the Comoros islands.
