The Navy says the third contingent consists of the 4,500-ton Chungmugong Yi Soon-shin KDX-II destroyer, an anti-submarine Lynx helicopter, and a 30-member underwater demolition team.
It is scheduled to arrive in the Gulf of Aden in late December and replace the second contingent led by the KDX-II Daejoyeong that has been in the region since March.

The deployment comes in anticipation of the National Assembly's approval of an extension of the tour of duty. The parliamentary committee on national defense is expected to present a bill to this end later in the week.
