À la veille de son voyage à Téhéran, le Premier ministre irakien Nouri Al-Maliki a de nouveau évoqué l'expulsion d'Irak des Moudjahidine du peuple d'Iran (OMPI). S'exprimant à la télévision Al-Iraqiya le 6 août 2007, il a déclaré que « la présence de l'OMPI en Irak est nuisible à la sécurité de l'Iran. Cette organisation se trouve dans la liste des organisations terroristes et sa présence sur notre territoire équivaut à ignorer les lois, les règlements et la constitution.»
