Canada. Federal government's science and technology expenditures up

The federal government's science and technology expenditures on biotechnology in 2008/2009 reached $937 million, up 1.8% from 2007/2008 measured in current dollars.

In 2008/2009, spending on biotechnology science and technology activities represented 9.0% of total federal government science and technology expenditures of $10.4 billion.

The federal government continued to allocate 29% of total spending on biotechnology or $271 million to in-house science and technology activities in biotechnology. The remainder went to extramural performers, with higher education institutions continuing to receive the majority ($550 million).

In 2008/2009, 2,104 full-time equivalent personnel were dedicated to biotechnology science and technology activities, relatively unchanged from 2007/2008.
