Haiti. Carme Chacón offers Ashton Spain's help

The Spanish Defence Minister, Carme Chacón, has met today for the first time with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, in Brussels, and has offered Spain's full support to coordinate Europe's aid to Haiti, after the recent earthquake hit the island.

As a member of the Spanish government, which holds the current six-month EU presidency, Chacón offered Ashton Spain's full support in coordinating the tasks to manage this crisis that has hit Latin America.
 
Apart from the emergency situation in Haiti after the earthquake, Ashton and Chacón spoke about the consolidation of a new European Common Security and Defence Policy and Operation Atalanta.
 
The EU will send 100 instructors to train four battalions of the security forces of the Federal Transitional Government of Somalia.
