Pakistan's Foreign Minister Mehmood Qureshi stresses Pakistan wants peace but no foreign pressure

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Monday stressed that Pakistan wants peace in the region; however, no foreign pressure is acceptable in this connection.

Talking to media after offering condolences to Sindh MPA Syed Ali Mardan Shah on his father's death, he said President Asif Ali Zardari wants strength for the institutions in the country, as he is the representative of the democratic forces.

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has proved itself to be a national and federal party and brought together the rivals of past as its allies, he maintained.

The FM Qureshi said the political leadership turned out to be responsible on the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.
Terming as irresponsible the statement by Indian Army Chief Gen Deepak Kapoor regarding simultaneous war with China and Pakistan, he said, "We are not overawed and nor will we be intimidated in future."

He continued, "We want to normalize relations with India and hold comprehensive negotiations on all issues between the two countries."

He also urged on the media to keep vigilant eye on any elements, groups or institutions causing detriment to the democracy, as the democracy was restored as a result of sacrifices and struggle put up by not only political parties but also media.

Pakistanis is paying a high price for the war on terror and Pakistani people, government and Pak Army are concertedly defeating these elements, he remarked.

Qureshi said British Prime Minister Gordon Brown acknowledged in his recent statement that the top extremist leaders are fleeing to Somalia and Yemen.

Responding a query, he said the present government is giving more weight to its relations with Iran and China, adding the relations with Afghanistan have improved as well.
