Après une crise de 6 semaines, Paul Wolfowitz, accusé d'avoir indûment accordé une promotion importante à sa compagne Shaha Riza, a annoncé son départ, tout en assurant avoir « agi de façon éthique et de bonne foi. » Cette démission, qui sera effective le 30 juin, met fin à deux ans d'une présidence controversée. L’annonce de ce départ a été accueillie aujourd’hui avec soulagement dans plusieurs capitales, par diverses ONGs et à la Banque Mondiale.
