South-Korea extends mandate for its navy off Somalia

The Cabinet of South-Korea passed a motion Tuesday and approved a one-year deployment extension for Korea's naval unit operating off the Somali coast. The present term was set to expire at the end of this year.

It is widely believed that South-Korea engages in this mission mainly to protect South-Korea affiliated fishing vessels off Somalia.
South Korea, however, has no mandate by the Somali government to enter its 200nm waters.
