Special African Union Summit opens in Kampala

A Special African Union Summit has today morning October 19th 2009 opened in Kampala.

It is attended by heads of states and other delegates from Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Ghana, Mozambique, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana and Tanzania among other countries.

The venue for the four day summit is Commonwealth Resort Beach Munyonyo, Kampala. The summit will take place from October 19th to 23rd, 2009.

The summit is running under the theme “African Union addressing the challenge of forced displacement in Africa”.

The summit is going to tackle the root causes of Internally Displaced People in Africa.

The African continent is assumed to have about 17 million Internally Displaced People and refugees.

The summit is expected to find out solutions which will curb the growing number of refugees and Internally Displaced People in Africa.
