Équiterre's Soir de la Terre. Antoine Gratton will be the spokesperson for this artistic, festive, and activist extravaganza

Montreal - For the second year running, Équiterre will present its annual benefit concert, Soir de la Terre. On May 17th, from 8 pm onwards, Metropolis will be rocking to the sounds of Équiterre’s supporters, including performers such as The Dears, Antoine Gratton, Mes Aïeux, Vulgaires Machins, Mara Tremblay, Bïa, Les Respectables, Colectivo, Tomás Jensen, Les 7 doigts de la main, Anik Jean and Alfa Rococo.

Other headliners of this festive event include Steven Guilbeault, director of Greenpeace Quebec, and renowned biologist Jean Lemire. Laure Waridel, co-founder of Équiterre, will make a virtual cameo appearance from her ecological home. The evening will conclude with an after party featuring DJ Pocket.

An artistic citizen gathering to raise awareness

Soir de la Terre, organized in conjunction with International Earth Day, will be an ecologically responsible event that aims to raise awareness amongst Quebecers. “What better medium than music to communicate such an important message!” says Antoine Gratton, spokesperson for the event, who was recently awarded a Juno for best francophone album of the year. “This is also an occasion for all those who take concrete action in their daily lives to celebrate their efforts and to renew their energy to continue” he adds.

”Zero waste and carbon neutral” – an inspiring example

Équiterre’s Soir de la Terre will be an ecologically responsible event that aims to be ”Zero waste and carbon neutral”. Every effort will be made to minimize waste and carbon emissions, while simultaneously supporting social action and solidarity. “CO2 emissions created by the planning and production of the show will be calculated and compensated for by planting trees and purchasing credits that will be invested in sustainable development projects“ explains Halima Elkhatabi, Fundraising coordinator for Équiterre. “No effort will be spared to minimize the negative social and environmental impacts of this event“ she declares, adding that Équiterre hopes the event will serve as a model for other initiatives.

Équiterre: promoting ecological and socially just choices
In keeping with its name, Équiterre, “an fair earth”, is dedicated to building a citizens' movement by promoting individual and collective choices that are both environmentally and socially responsible. Through its four programs - ecological agriculture, fair trade, sustainable transportation and energy efficiency – and its two campaigns – climate change and responsible consumerism - the organization has developed projects that encourage individuals to take concrete action to bring about positive change.
