“Australia has had a longstanding relationship with Boeing, which is involved with some of our biggest defence procurement projects,” said Mr Combet.

At the meeting Mr Combet discussed the work being done by Boeing on projects such as the Super Hornets and also the Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) program.

“I thanked Boeing for the great performance on the Super Hornet project but also raised concerns about the progress to date on the Wedgetail aircraft,” Mr Combet said.

“Unfortunately, the Wedgetail Airborne program is currently more than three years behind schedule and there are some significant issues that remain to be resolved.”

“However, I am very pleased to see the efforts being put into this program by the Commonwealth and Boeing.”

Mr Combet also thanked the Boeing Company for their participation in the Australian Industry Capability (AIC) Program.

“Under this program Boeing established an office to assist Australian companies to win work in their supply chain. The office also conducts training and mentoring of Australian companies, particularly SME's within the Boeing group and its suppliers.”

“This program has proved very successful with Australian companies to date winning orders worth around A$26 million.”

“I look forward to an ongoing productive relationship with Boeing.”
