Parmi les donateurs de la Fondation Historica, bénéficaire de la somme rondelette offerte par Mme Bev Oda, ministre du Patrimoine canadien et de la condition féminine, figurent les grandes banques canadiennes et plusieurs sociétés de l’industrie pétrolière. Le président de son conseil d’administration est M. Stephen Bronfman, fils de M. Charles Bronfman, lui-même un des co-fondateurs de l’organisme, qui se déclare à but non lucratif. L'organisme a été au centre d’une controverse, il y a quelques années, à cause de la production de la série les Minutes du Patrimoine, diffusée sur RDI, la télévision française de Radio-Canada, et disponible sur le site de Historica.
