SEYCHELLOIS PIRACY HOSTAGES RELEASED

All 7 Seychellois hostages onboard M/S INDIAN OCEAN EXPLORER have been released and are at a safe location in Kenya. “Over the last 80 days, as a nation we have shared in the concern and uncertainty of the seven families whose loved ones were being held captive. As a nation we have shared their frustration and anxiety. And today we share in their joy. We are united in this joy and celebration,” said President James Michel on receiving the news of their release.

The 7 men are Francis Roucou, George Bijoux, Patrick Dyer, Robin Songoire, Georges Guichard, Robert Naiken, and Stephen Stravens.
The Indian Ocean Explorer was seized by Somali pirates between 28th -31st March this year.

All 7 men will be arriving at Seychelles International airport tomorrow, where they will be met by their families and President James Michel.

Additionally, the Hostage Negotiation Team has been in contact today with the 3 Seychellois men taken hostage from the boat S/Y SERENITY, and they are said to be well. Negotiations to free the 3 men are continuing.

Local reports say that the former research vessel was left behind and was set on fire - this, however, could not be independently confirmed and also other information, which speak of an exchange with Somali prisoners held in the Seychelles for alleged piracy could so far not be verified, while it seems to be rather sure that a ransom was paid.
