Massacre near Denver during showing of The Dark Knight Rises

DENVER, Colorado (USA) – Twelve people have been killed Friday in a Denver suburb when a masked gunman opened fire and killed 12 people at a midnight showing of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. According to reports, at least fifty other persons have been injured.

"This is a horrific event," Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates described the massacre as a ‘horrific event’ The suspect has been taken into custody in the parking lot behind the theater. The gunman appeared at the front of the theater during the movie and released a canister which let out a hissing sound before gunfire erupted.

Colorado has been the scene of mass killings in the past. In 1999, two students opened fire at Columbine High School in the suburb of Littleton, near Denver, killing 12 students.
